A Walk through White Canyon
A scorching 38 degrees Celsius sun was shining over the head while we walked towards the colored canyons in the Sinai Peninsula. We fixed our head turbans and shoe laces as we entered the curvy path. It wasn’t too hard to imagine these rocks were once under a deep ocean.
Millions of years of water erosion formed layers of sandstone and limestone which were apparent in the walls of the canyon. Different shades of colors and patterns have emerged as witnesses of time. The ocean floor is now a desert. Small grooves inside the canyon gave impression of a vibrant underwater life in the past. Some of them look like a crocodile or a human face if looked at closely.
Change is the only constant in nature. Colored Canyon exhibits how time can change an underwater environment into simple rocks and a lifeless desert. In the end, we bid farewell to the heat and dry rocks, wondering about the impermanence of life in the universe.
